FROM PLACE TO PLACE: CHANGING THE SYSTEM THAT RAISED THEM
November 17, 2011 What would you do without your family? What if you were all alone in the world? The documentary film FROM PLACE TO PLACE tells the story of invisible children who grow up in America’s foster care system. For the first time, Mandy, Raif and Micah find their voice after being hurt, lost and silenced by the system that was supposed to care for them. The feature length film follows their lives for two years as they struggle to make it on their own, find their voice and change the foster care system. By looking at the effects on a few individuals, the film helps to make the problem real, not just statistics. Friends of Children will present this groundbreaking documentary filmed in Montana and Washington D.C. as a benefit for the agency. Pairing the film with our own multimedia work on the needs of foster children in Massachusetts and throughout the country called Seeing Their Voices, Friends of Children will hold the New England debut of the film on the evening of Thursday, November 17th at the Academy of Music in Northampton. Following the film, the agency will lead a short panel discussion on how citizens can get involved to improve the lives of children experiencing foster care locally and nationally. Additionally, the agency will honor local child advocacy heroes including Representative John Scibak. Friends of Children constantly strives to find ways to support and enhance the lives of vulnerable children, particularly those in foster care locally. They need the arms of the community around them as they grow and a chance to make their voices heard. |
